Q are Cordially Uninvited… (Star Trek: The Next Generation)

Hey, remember when Jean-Luc and Beverly got married? No? Could it have anything to do with the fact that they decided to get married in one book and they were magically already married in the next one? Well this novella tells us the real story of their wedding. And it wouldn’t be a story about Picard’s personal life without Q!

Thoughts

This is a short eBook novella where, to me, the positives did not outweigh the negatives. Although the wedding that Q gives to Jean-Luc and Beverly is nice, the “bachelor party” of sending Picard on some adventure with Vash was a strange choice. I am a fan of Q although not as much of Vash (my favorite Vash story was the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode “Captain’s Holiday,” which was also the introduction to her character).

It was just such an odd choice for Q’s antics. Usually, even though he’s a trickster at heart, he’s always got some sort of moral of the story for Picard. To me, if you’re going to use Q, it should have been Q giving Picard a life without Beverly, or with Vash instead, to show how things could be if he were to stay forever a bachelor or be with someone else. It would be a good opportunity for Picard to decide that he truly does want to be with Beverly. And Q could say something like, “I knew you had it in you!”

I had to give this 2 out of 5 stars. It’s a cute story but wasn’t really up my alley unfortunately.
