Book Review

No Man’s Land (Star Trek: Picard)

Is it called “No Man’s Land” because the two main characters are women? I mean, I guess there are parts that take place in Romulan territory. But still… I think the title should have been “When Seven Met Raffi” or “The Taming of the Seven” or something like that.

Thoughts

I feel like I should disclaim that Simon & Schuster, the parent company of Gallery Books, kindly sent me a free copy of this book for me to review. Just know that my opinion is unbiased regardless.

I listened to the audio drama back when it came out in 2022, so technically this is a re-read. And it was a quick read at that since it was merely the script for the audio drama. I read it in just a couple hours.

Overall, it’s a fun story showing how the Fenris Rangers work through the eyes of an outsider – that being Raffi. But it’s really a story about love and friendship and finding oneself and how to make those work together.

I originally gave this 4 stars for the audio drama and I decided to leave my rating there. Although the book form of this is probably more of a 3. I really would have liked it if the authors novelized the story a little. It could still be short – I’m not asking for a page 1 re-write or to expand it or anything. But as someone who doesn’t read scripts very often, it doesn’t translate as well for me.

In short, my opinion is to take the time to listen to the audio drama. It is worth the experience and the money (the book is pretty expensive for the page count).
